Puppies are 3 days old and Jersey and the babies are healthy and happy. Fun fact: at birth up until about two weeks old, puppies eyes and ears are closed. Their noses, though, are a super power! They use their sense of smell to stay near the "milk bar" and each other. 1-31-25
Puppies are already a week old! They are growing by leaps and bounds, and Jersey is taking amazing care of them. Puppies are receiving ENS on days 3-16. 2-6-26
At two weeks old, puppies eyes and ears are beginning to open. They start to toddle around. I call this the one-eyed pirate phase! We begin to introduce novel items, one each day. Jersey loves her babies! 2-14-26
Big changes at three weeks old! Puppies are much more active. They are beginning to interact with each other and can nurse standing up. Puppies are lapping from a saucer. 2-22-26
At four weeks old, puppies have improved their lapping skills and begun some soft solids in their meals. We added a "litter box" which facilitates puppies keeping their space clean. Puppies and dogs don't like to eliminate where they play, sleep, and eat, so this is a basic foundation for crate and house training. At day one, some of the puppies are already using the box. So smart! Once they get the hang of the box, their space will be expanded, knowing they will keep the increased real estate clean. With the warmer weather, puppies can begin short outdoor sessions to really stretch their legs and increase their coordination. See video below from this week. So much going on! 3-1-26
It's hard to believe that the Jersey x Carl puppies are already five weeks old! This week puppies started their outdoor adventures in our covered puppy play space. They are fully enjoying their playground, running around, the toys, and chasing each other. Puppies also loved social time with their future families, who visited for playtime. It's been a great week! 3-8-26
In their sixth week, puppies change rapidly! They are getting taller and heavier. Puppies are curious and ready to try novel equipment and investigate new people. They learn from each other and where one goes, the others often follow (whether it's the balance saucer or the nap crate). Puppies are choosing to use the crate in the pen ~ the door remains open. We are also practicing crate skills by feeding puppies in crates. First in pairs, and then singly. So by the time they go home, puppies will have positive associations with being crated. We experienced significant weather variables this week from 80 degrees and sunny to snow. New families came to choose their puppies - lots of joy and smiles with these visits! 3-15-26
